Straight From The Hearth

Living in New York City, there are a few things you’ll probably never have: peace and quiet, a savings account, a backyard, and a fireplace. You’ll find at least one of those things at these bars.

Public: An entire room is centered around Public’s fireplace. While diners hang out in the back of this Aussie restaurant waiting for their tables, cocktailers come to get toasted and roasted.
Horus Café: Despite using logs as tables and chairs, this fascinating lounge isn’t afraid to tempt fate with a busy kitchen, hookahs that steam all night long, and an ornate fireplace.
Kili: It’s Aspen just off Atlantic Avenue here, where ornamental snowflakes and icicles surround Kili’s mini inferno. Despite the wood-burning heat, the vibe here is oh-so cool.
Bookmarks: One can almost picture a corduroy-clad Central Casting professor smoking a pipe, basset hound by his side, basking in the glow of the Library Hotel’s Bookmarks’ flame.
Lockinn: Lockinn didn’t exactly invent fire, but opening their fireplace-bearing bar far enough off Bedford Avenue to be a legitimate neighborhood joint is close enough for us.
