You don't have to be Al Gore to realize that the environment is in about as much trouble as J.Lo at a PETA convention. And while melting glaciers and the prospect of California drifting away may fall into the not-my-problem category (do we really need a state that's governed by the guy in Twins?), perhaps the toxic chemicals in your highlighted hair, hairspray, and other beauty staples will hit you where it hurts. That's where Skinny Dip comes in. The brand-new Williamsburg salon/retail space is the brainchild of owner Sarah, a hairstylist who wanted to create a beauty space where everything is completely organic. That means no coloring services (Sarah's looking into earth-friendly alternatives) or chemical-heavy products; cuts for men and women are just $30 to $50, and can be done dry if clients prefer. The small, garden-like space is adorned with only recycled or vintage furniture, while a slew of organic beauty products from Weleda, Lavera, Simply Organic, Druide, and more is available for purchase. After all, being a toxic avenger doesn't mean you can't look cute. Skinny Dip, 540 Driggs Ave. (N. 7th & N. 8th Sts.), Williamsburg, 718.599.2616; www.skinnydipnyc.com |
