Most people celebrate the New Year by wearing dorky 2006 glasses, throwing themselves at their crushes just to get a midnight kiss, and waking up the next day with the world's worst hangover. So maybe the Chinese - who will be celebrating the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dog - have a better idea. To get into the spirit, start with some gussied-up Chinese chow at the new restaurant, Philippe (33 E. 60th St.; 212.644.8885), where Peking duck is carved right at the table. Or, head to Joe's Shanghai (9 Pell St.; 212.233.8888), which has soup dumplings that'll knock your chopsticks off. Shopaholics can head to Sinotique (19 Mott St.; 212.587.2393) to pick up bamboo birdcages, antiques, and other Feng Shui-chic goods. Just be sure to end your night by getting your Wang Chung on at the Asian-themed Orchid Lounge (500 E. 11th St.; 212.254.4090), where complimentary shots are brought out when a gong sounds. |
