Hair Lab
Gotta love hair products these days—we challenge anyone to find a hair problem that isn’t targeted by one of the hundreds of hair products that line drugstore aisles. Aussie’s Opposites Attract collection, another Beauty at Its Best winner, is chock full of Australian botanicals like wild cherry and mango. Their Opposites Attract Hair Spray (7) ($3.99) holds without stiffness—and the super-cute kangaroo on the Aussie logo almost makes up for the kitschy purple plastic packaging. You may have heard about the controversy brewing with the David Babaii for WildAid Collection, but with 10 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Wildaid Wildlife Protection Program, we can’t help but love this line. The Amplifying Shampoo (8) ($13.95) and Conditioner (9) ($14.95) are made with volcanic ash from the Vanuatu islands of the South Pacific, free of sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, and animal products—and the unisex scent appeals to both men and women. Clairol’s Perfect 10 Nice ’n Easy (10) ($12.59), is, well, just as the name implies, “nice ‘n easy,” with high-gloss permanent color achieved in 10 minutes. While we would never dare attempt highlights sans the supervision of a trained professional, this all-over dye, with a color palette of more than 20 shades, makes a great quick cover-up for stress-related grays.
