Knit Wit: 7 Best Knit Hats
November 6, 2008
With flashy fedoras on the wane, knit hats currently are the hat of choice for women, and the more homemade they look, the better. Don’t take yours off inside, either—like scarves, many knit hats look even cuter indoors. All thumbs with a pair of knitting needles? No worries—there are plenty of adorable knit hats out there for bargain prices, so if you lose it, you’ll only be losing a hat, not an arm and a leg.

Different Stripes
Ahoy there! This
A.P.C. Striped Knit Cap ($70) is cotton with a touch of cashmere for extra softness.

Button Up
Buttons are appearing on hats of all kinds this fall, like this
Goorin Bros. Tribeca Oversized Knit Hat ($26), which mixes homey style with a little downtown edge.

Hold on to Your…
You’ll feel like Mary Tyler Moore in this cute
Anthropologie Gilded Beret ($38) in red—though you might not be willing to toss the hat into the wilds of New York.

Hoodwinked
Hoods like this
Earthly Fae Hood in Wheat ($52) are another big development in knitwear. Etsy knitter Pixiebell writes that she likes “elfin headwear”—thus the mischievious sense of humor in her pieces?

Marley and Me
Marled yarn can look really granny-ish…unless of course it’s made into a cool cap like this slouchy
Urban Outfitters Marled Beret ($24). Think granny in a good way.

Crochet My Way
We’re just crazy about this Flower “Maria” Headscarf (regularly $46, Shecky’s price $42) from Shecky’s Girls Night Out designer
Volang. You wrap it around your forehead and button it in back.

  Amazing Grace
Whenever you get sick of winter’s dull, drab colors, put on this pretty
Grace Hats Ivory Cocoon Beret (regularly $79, Shecky’s price $40) and your outlook will brighten considerably.

There are some nice hats there. I like the striped knit cap, but the Fae hood really stands out. I've purchased twice from Pixiebell, and I love her designs.
