Get It in Gear: Best New Workout Wear
August 14, 2008
Ah, the Olympics! Could there be a better way to get your ass in gear than a highly-televised guilt trip for being a couch potato all summer long? If you’re still in need of inspiration to put down that cheeseburger, check out these options for stylish active wear. Best of all, these clothes work just as well for slouching around the house. Don’t worry, we won’t tell.

Wild Horses
What’s not to like about footwear that’s been dubbed the “stripper boot of the horse world”? We’ll go for a ride in these Nike riding boots (1) anytime, but sadly, they are not yet available to non-Olympians. Go for these Nike Lunar Trainer + Women’s Running Shoes (2) ($100) instead, specially developed for Olympic runners.

Match Point
Leave it to Stella McCartney to make sports sexy. We may not know much about tennis, but we’ll pick up a racket in this ensemble (3) from her fall collection, previewing in Adidas stores this Fri. and Sat., Aug. 15th and 16th.

Get Shorty
We wouldn’t recommend running a marathon in Urban Outfitters’ Lux Breton Stripe Short (4)($14.99), but you could play one hell of a game of capture the flag, a la Wet Hot American Summer.

Dancing Queen
Ballerinas get futuristic (and tough!) with Puma’s Icon Women’s shoe (5) in black rose ($60). These puppies will keep you on point no matter what kind of exercises you’re doing—even, like, shopping.

Wicked
“Wicking” clothes are a big deal in places like San Francisco, where the populace lives in workout gear. We’re not sure we need moisture constantly wicked from our skin, but this Title Nine Last-Minute Hoody (6) ($70), great for travel, sure feels comfy whether or not you break a sweat.

Race to the Finish
We swooned over these simple but sporty new racer back yoga tops from Yum NY (7) when we espied them at the Hamptons’ Girls Day Out. Not only do they look sexy, they feel like a second skin.

Spectator Sport
Still not inspired to move that ass? Throw on one of these retro Olympic shirts (8) from ASOS ($54.73) and exercise those thumbs on the remote control.
