How did you become a designer?
After finishing a fine art degree in 2006, I felt the need to get out of the classroom setting and create work that didn't require a project proposal or artist statement. Creating jewelry gave me the opportunity to use my hands creating purely aesthetically-pleasing items and also provided a way to connect directly to a more mainstream audience.
What’s your inspiration?
Alexander Calder, wide open spaces, mod fabrics from the 1950s, and the history and classic graphic design that I see every day in my postage stamps.
What’s your hometown?
South Bend, IN
If you had to pick a favorite design from your collection, what would it be?
My small resin necklace would have to be my favorite. At 10 millimeters, it really is just a tiny dot of color that sits at the collarbone. Inside the pendant, there is a little swatch of postage stamp encased in resin that creates a 'secret treasure' quality.
What are you wearing right now?
Clogs, jeans, plain blue t-shirt, cardigan and a red wooly hat made by Squasht by Les, one of my favorite handmade designers.
