How did you become a designer?
I was a history major, so I always had a passion for learning about different time periods. When I came across the Mughal era (the time of Taj Mahal), I was fascinated by Kundan jewelry. Kundan jewelry comes in different forms, but the most popular is silver based with 22 karat gold plating. I educated myself more about this form of jewelry, making extended trips to the local villages where the jewelry was made. As a hobby, I started working with the jewelry to create new, innovative pieces for my personal use. When I found my peers really appreciated my work, I started KC Signatures.
What’s your inspiration?
My inspiration is my children and the local artisans who help bring my vision into a graceful reality. When I design, I keep my inspiration and their passion (the welfare of their own children) as my motivation for creating the line.
What’s your hometown?
Punjab, India
If you had to pick a favorite design from your collection, what would it be?
My earrings that were featured in Lucky Magazine (November 2008) are absolutely graceful. I love the length of these earrings and the lightness of the style.
