We’ve been loving the ‘60s hairdos in magazines and on the runways for fall, but we were curious: Is this look something only a professional hairstylist can achieve, or can you do this ‘do at home? It's almost impossible to look at women like Sophia Loren—her sultry style and hair—and not want to emulate her. Maybe you dream of being part of that hair era but don’t have the courage or the know-how to achieve such a fierce ‘do. Well darlings, here are some easy tips to create your own sophisticated yet sexy 1960s hair.
To make any of these looks easy to do at home, you need to start with a good blow dry. When done professionally, most of these hair styles are set with rollers or barrel curls in order to last and maintain volume. But for a home job, there’s no need to stress yourself with curlers: All you need is one evening’s worth of volume, not two weeks.
The Necessary Tools
Volume-active product
Hair sectioning clips (any kind will do)
Bobby pins that match your hair color
Two round brushes, one small, one medium
Paddle brush
A blow dryer with a nozzle at the tip
Light hold hairspray
Strong hold hairspray
