We all have our pet peeves about the opposite sex. Across the board, men seem to dislike too much texting, fake tans, and “Sharpie” eyebrows. But what about us? When we asked women “What are the most unattractive things you commonly see in men?” here’s what they said. What else would you add to the list? Leave a comment and let us know. -Cass Daubenspeck
1. Constantly on the phone
Seriously, we get that you have a lot of work to do. But if you said you were going to spend time with us, put the phone away. (And that “hold on a sec” finger move? Not gonna fly.)
2. Not Tipping
The worst date I’ve ever been on was with a guy who, after cringing when I didn’t order the cheapest thing on the menu, did not tip the waitress. Really? This is never, ever OK. It shows a total lack of empathy and also, it’s just cheap.
This is a sensitive subject. A lot of women appreciate when their man cries. It shows that he trusts you and isn’t afraid to express his emotions. But there’s a fine line between sensitivity and weeping like a woman when he stubs his toe. Women like men who are sensitive and empathetic, but sobbing over little things might make it hard to look at him the same way.
4. Saggy Pants
It’s a mystery why men want to walk around with their junk hanging out for everyone to see. This is a public service announcement: saggers: pull up your pants, son! No woman, and I repeat, no woman, thinks this is hot.
5. Messy Apartment
Most women do not grow up dreaming about the day when some guy will sprinkle cereal crumbs and dirty underwear over every surface of her new house. Walking into a guy’s apartment that looks like Hurricane Irene just blew back into town is a big red light. A grown man is perfectly capable of picking up his own smurf. So he ought to.
How disgusting is it when someone hocks up a glob of gunk right onto the sidewalk? Spitting isn’t new, but men have always done it like it’s going out of style. Which it should. Is it their way of claiming their territory (the same way dogs pee on hydrants)? Disgusting.
7. Bad hygiene
Possibly the biggest turnoff of all. Women are much more sensitive to smell than men, which makes it even more important that he’s taking care of the little things. Men everywhere, hear this: soap, scape, smell good. Showering daily is not optional.
Some women like hair. It’s a sign of virility and strength. Others say hairy feet, backs and hands really bother them. We fall somewhere in between. Men, if you’re brave enough, decently groomed eyebrows are always a nice thought.
There’s nothing like a nice mouthful of cigarette tar when he kisses you. This one should be obvious by now. Smoking is not sexy. On anyone.
