Move Over Boys, The Girls Are Running The (TV) Show
Elizabeth Meriwether

How do you go from having no prior experience whatsoever in a writers’ room to prestigious nominations from the WGA and Golden Globes? Just ask Liz Meriwether, the creator of Fox’s Zooey Deschanel-led comedy hit “New Girl.” After studying English and theater at Yale, a playbill for one of Meriwether’s theater productions ended up in the hands of Jonathan Davis, executive V.P. of comedy development for Fox, who called her up and heard her pitch for a show about an offbeat gal (Zooey’s Jess Day) who moves in with three single guys (these funny, foxy fellas!) following a bad breakup. The pitch was picked up and “New Girl” was born, with Meriwhether acting as executive producer and head writer on a show that’s quickly become one of our must-see faves!
