So You’re Now Blonde…Now What?
Step 2: Talk it Out!

O.K. so you’ve arrived at the salon…now what? Before you color, be realistic for starters! It’s never too late for common sense to come ringing through. Sure, you’d love to be platinum, but if you are naturally dark brunette, that’s not going to happen necessarily in one treatment. So where to begin? Talk it out with your stylist. “Blonde is always a possibility no matter what your hair color you have. However, you want to be careful because when going blonde, you can risk the integrity of the hair. Be sure to talk it out with your stylist upon arrival and always remember to start simple for a beautiful, rich color” says Paige Hagedorn, of DePasquale Salon and Spa in Morris Plains N.J.
Once you got a solid game plan on your desired look, colorist Jeffrey Pearce at the Rick Wellman salon suggests clients ask about other important factors such as cost and maintaining that new golden look for ultimate decision making. “The client should also be made to understand the amount of maintenance that is involved with their new look. The darker her roots and, conversely, the blonder the treatment, the more maintenance will be required. It is important to tell them the cost of maintaining their new look, because it’s not just about the cost of going blonde once, but also, maintaining that new blonde look.”
