Even more impressive than Neil Patrick Harris escaping from under Doogie Howser’s shadow was Jason Bateman successfully bouncing back from the truly awful ’80s flick Teen Wolf Too. Bateman rose to teen heartthrob status in the 1980s due to his TV work on shows like “Silver Spoons” and “Valerie,” but it was the box office failure Teen Wolf Too that almost crippled his child star career. He tried to bounce back from the humiliating failure with more TV work, on shows like “George & Leo” and “Some of My Best Friends,” but none of the shows lasted longer than a season. The disappointments would make a lesser former child actor fall into a downward spiral, but not Bateman. He kept working until he got his real big break on “Arrested Development,” for which he won a Golden Globe. Now Bateman’s one of Hollywood’s most popular comedic actors, cracking audiences up in funny flicks like Juno, Horrible Bosses and The Change-Up. Not bad, Bateman!

I had no idea Katherine Heigl was a child star! Actually, i haven’t really cared for her much. Nothing against her, just not my favorites. After reading this, though, I definitely have much more respect and admiration for her and her work!

The problem is the news likes to focus on the negative. I would guess that the majority of childhood stars have “gone good” but you only hear about the bad ones over and over and over again. This list should be “100 child stars who didn’t turn into hot messes.”
