10 Child Stars Who Didn’t Turn Into Hot Messes

Dakota Fanning

Okay, this one may seem a bit premature since the 18-year-old actress only became an adult this year, but Dakota’s had a good head on her shoulders seemingly since birth. Whether Fanning wholly dodges the perils and pitfalls of the child star curse is still to be seen, but the odds are in the smart, talented young actress’s favor. Honestly, do you really think we’ll ever get a floosy up-skirt picture from Ms. Fanning? Exactly. Dakota’s been working consistently since she was a chipmunk-cheeked six-year-old, but even then, the world knew this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill child star—she snagged a Screen Actors Guild Award when she was only seven for her astounding work in I Am Sam and won multiple Critics Choice Awards by the time she was twelve (check out her adorably precocious acceptance speech!) We see big things in this blonde’s future, and none of them thankfully involve a mug shot!

I had no idea Katherine Heigl was a child star! Actually, i haven’t really cared for her much. Nothing against her, just not my favorites. After reading this, though, I definitely have much more respect and admiration for her and her work!

It’s nice to know some people act like real people in Hollywood.

What about Kirk Cameron? He probably turned out better than any of the child actors.

The problem is the news likes to focus on the negative. I would guess that the majority of childhood stars have “gone good” but you only hear about the bad ones over and over and over again. This list should be “100 child stars who didn’t turn into hot messes.”

Natalie Portman should be on this list! From “Leon: The Professional” to “Black Swan” with a degree from Harvard in between.
