10 Child Stars Who Didn’t Turn Into Hot Messes

Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst’s transition between child star to full-fledged adult actress was so seamless and scandal-free that many forget the blonde beauty was indeed a child star, making her big-screen debut opposite Hollywood heavyweights Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in 1994′s Interview with the Vampire when she was only 10 (yes, her first on-screen kiss, and likely one of her first kisses ever, was with Brad freaking Pitt. Our first kiss definitely wasn’t that awesome.) From Little Women to Jumanji, The Virgin Suicides to Bring It On, Dunst kept adding acting gig upon acting gig to her resume, and she hasn’t slowed down since, appearing in the hotly-anticipated Bachelorette and On The Road this year. So, about that child star curse?

Girl Talk Time: Why do you think child stars generally turn out to be such hot messes? Who’s your fave former child star? Why do you think these actors managed to transition to adult acting without scandals, unlike Lohan & co?

I had no idea Katherine Heigl was a child star! Actually, i haven’t really cared for her much. Nothing against her, just not my favorites. After reading this, though, I definitely have much more respect and admiration for her and her work!

It’s nice to know some people act like real people in Hollywood.

What about Kirk Cameron? He probably turned out better than any of the child actors.

Yes, it would be nice if you showed a little more diversity in this list. More research people.

The problem is the news likes to focus on the negative. I would guess that the majority of childhood stars have “gone good” but you only hear about the bad ones over and over and over again. This list should be “100 child stars who didn’t turn into hot messes.”

Natalie Portman should be on this list! From “Leon: The Professional” to “Black Swan” with a degree from Harvard in between.

How about a little diversity here? There is also Raven Simone, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Tatiana Ali, Bernadette Stanis, Janet Jackson to name a few.
