10 Child Stars Who Didn’t Turn Into Hot Messes

Nowadays, it seems you can’t even walk out of your house without hearing yet another story of former Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes holding herself hostage for hours in a Starbuck’s bathroom, or once-upon-a-time Disney movie princess Lindsay Lohan ill-advisedly getting behind the wheel yet again, only to run another person down with her car. The worrying duo is just a long line of former fresh-faced child actors who quickly spiraled down from fame to infamy due to too much money, too much freedom and too much exposure at such a young age. But not everybody turned out like Lohan & co. We’ve found 10 former child stars who’ve deftly managed to dodge DUIs, rehab stints and arrests, and seamlessly transitioned into adult acting. Good job, parents!

Mila Kunis

We don’t know about you, but when we were 14-years-old, we definitely weren’t making out with guys who looked like Ashton Kutcher. Such is Mila Kunis’s luck. Before she was one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood, the Ukrainian-born beauty was the bell bottom-boasting Jackie Burkhart on “That ’70s Show”, but she didn’t snag the part without a fair dose of precocious deception—the then 14-year-old actress won the part by lying about her age at the audition, telling producers “I’ll be 18 on my birthday” but neglecting to say when! Kunis pretty much grew up on the set, with costar Wilmer Valderrama teaching her how to drive and Danny Masterson taking her to her own prom, but despite the stoner sensibilities of the show, Mila focused on working over partying, voicing the role of Meg Griffin on “Family Guy” and proving her big screen presence in films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Black Swan. Even though she escaped from the child star curse, it doesn’t seem she escaped the pull of Kutcher—they’re still making out!

I had no idea Katherine Heigl was a child star! Actually, i haven’t really cared for her much. Nothing against her, just not my favorites. After reading this, though, I definitely have much more respect and admiration for her and her work!

It’s nice to know some people act like real people in Hollywood.

What about Kirk Cameron? He probably turned out better than any of the child actors.

The problem is the news likes to focus on the negative. I would guess that the majority of childhood stars have “gone good” but you only hear about the bad ones over and over and over again. This list should be “100 child stars who didn’t turn into hot messes.”

Natalie Portman should be on this list! From “Leon: The Professional” to “Black Swan” with a degree from Harvard in between.
