American Horror Story

Stock up on those creepy Halloween decorations early if you’re into the spooky, supernatural-filled show “American Horror Story.” If you don’t want to go so far as slapping on a slick latex Rubber Man costume ($49.99 on partycity.com) to greet your Emmy viewing party guests, you can still capture the freaky feel of the show with bloody good drinks, eerie decor and, er, brainy dishes.

Decor: You’ve already got the color scheme pretty much set—take a cue from the show’s logo and deck out your digs in red, white and black. You can hang some of the show’s creepy posters around or, even better, use them as a table cloth (just put a clear table cloth over the posters to keep them in place and stain-free!). Add spooky accoutrements like spider webs, dolls heads and red candles, and even have your guests dress up in themed costumes—think blood-spattered nurses, White Out nuns and Moira-style French maids ($34.98 on partycity.com).

Drinks: It’s time to get a little morbid with that cocktail shaker of yours—blood’s the theme when it comes to crafting up some themed ‘tails for this Emmys viewing party. Stir up sinister spirits like Martha Stewart’s Bleeding Heart Martini, a classic Bloody Mary or a Blood Orange Sangria.

Dishes: You’re going to need some frightful fare to go along with those bloody good sips, so why not base your menu on one of the show’s most nightmare-worthy episodes of season one, “Piggy Piggy.” Mass murders, demonic babies, brains noshing—there’s plenty of creepiness to take inspiration from, but it’s the latter that these Halloween-ready Brains Cupcakes nod to. Disturbing yet delicious, just like the show itself! You can even play off the episode’s title and the terrifying Piggy Man with some mini Pigs in a Blanket.
