We know, we know, we’re supposed to be paying attention to the awe-inspiring athletic feats the Olympians have been accomplishing all week, but our beauty-obsessed brains can’t get past the oh-so-cool braids, bold lips, patriotic nails and fabulous buns (mind out of the gutter people, we’re talking hair!) that the athletes have been seen sporting throughout the games. Ryan Lochte’s kooky stars-and-stripes grills aside, there has been a surprising wealth of gold medal-worthy makeup and hair at this year’s Olympics, and we’ve gathered up the 10 best Olympic beauty looks that are seriously cool in and out of the stadium!

BEST BUNS: USA Women’s Gymnastics
It’s not only McKayla Maroney’s sky-high vaults that have kept our eyes glued to the screen every time the USA women’s gymnastics team, a.k.a the “Fab Five” pops up on the telly—it’s also their coolly undone buns they’ve teamed with their sparkly leos and matching eyeshadow. The pulled-through half-pony buns are a refreshing change from the tightly wound top knots and sock buns that have dominated this season. Sure, there may be naysayers who dislike the decidedly not-so-neat ‘do, but we think their chic haphazard hair is as winning as their gymnastic skills!

I just realized that the synchronized swimmers wear makeup – and they are sometimes in the water longer than the “regular” swimmers. So, they probably could do makeup!

Venus Williams’s hair is uh-MAZE-ing!
Gabby wins the all around gold and receives tweets about how her hair needs to be better. So sad. Her hair matches the team’s hair and the skills are what count.

USA hairdo was ‘undone, Didn’t like it. Russian tem eye makeup was awsome, their performance and attitude needed a complete makeover.

Not a fan of the USA gymnasts’ half-buns. I think it looks messy and is distracting. Totally love the Russian gymnast’s eye shadow, Venus’ hair and all the nail polish though!
Mustafina’s eye makeup was a huge standout, it was amazing. Plus she is amazing and beautiful! =) I wish you guys wouldn’t have mentioned McKayla Maroney though. Her unworthy display of sportsmanship after not smiling/hugging the winners of the vault (who won rightfully so after her mistakes in the vault) put her on my loser list.
Don’t you think Ms. Mustafina hersef was somewhat bratty and unsportsperson-like as well? Having seen her many times crying her eyes out because her routine didn’t go as planned as well as smacking the hands of her consoling coaches off of her after her failed routines? What about her pissed off smirks whenever a competitor did their routine beautifully???
However, I do agree that her eye makeup was great!
