10 Tips to Make You The Best Wingwoman Ever

Sure, we all want to find the picture perfect significant other for ourselves, but sometimes it’s even more fun to pull a Fiddler and go full-on matchmaker on your friends. Nowadays, though, old school-style setting up friends for a dinner date just doesn’t cut it anymore. Now you need to be a wingman, a bar-going buddy who will help field hot prospects for your best friend, reel in that sexy certain someone that caught their eye and give them a little nudge towards happy ever after—or at the very least a hot hook-up! Wingmen have stereotypically been men, seen in schlock jock flicks like Wedding Crashers and The 40 Year Old Virgin, but everybody knows that whatever guys can do, a gal can do better. Take these ten helpful tips and become the best wingwoman ever—your friends (and their love lives) will thank you!

For a Guy Friend:

Give a Good Pep Talk

Every guy on the planet has seen (and cried) to Rudy, which means they know a good pep talk when they hear one and will likely respond well to a sideline-style, well-timed boost of confidence before they go out. Whether you’re at the gym together before hitting the bar or helping him pick out his least douche-y outfit to go out in, pull your guy friend aside for a pre-game pep talk, taking a sports coach type of approach, complete with a game plan for when you’re at the bar (hell, you can even throw a few “champs” and a “slugger” in there while you’re at it), that will reinforce the notion that you guys are going out on the prowl as a team. Sure, as a wingwoman, you’ll be taking some of the weight off the guy’s shoulders, but it’ll still be up to him to seal the deal, so a good pre-game pep talk is just what the lad needs to feel confident enough to go out and land a lady!

Avoiding excessive drinking is just a good rule in general to not make everyone in the group embarrassed whether or not you’re wing-woman-ing.
