Want a body like an Olympian? Now that’s a pretty lofty feat, but if you just want to get more toned and trim this summer, our favorite way to get our fitness on is at the beach! You basically get the best of both worlds—you get to spend the day in the gorgeous sun, sand and surf while burning off that barbecue and booze we’ve all been indulging in this summer. From beach volleyball to paddle boarding, surfing to sand runs, we’ve gathered up beach-ready workouts that are actually—shocker!—fun to do, so you can look your most fit and fabulous through summer and beyond!

Surfing

Admit it, once you saw Kate Bosworth man a surfboard in that so-bad-it’s-good ’02 flick Blue Crush, you’ve been secretly wanting to get your surfer girl on. Get a Blue Crush-worthy bikini bod by buying a board of your own and hitting the waves! Surfing is an awesome cardiovascular workout because it keeps you moving, from using your leg muscles to guide the board when riding waves to working your upper body muscles when paddling out to catch the next one, plus it keeps your heart rate up and breathing heavy. Don’t know how to surf? No worries—there are surfing lessons likely available at your local beach, or you can sign up for “surf school” (yes, there’s such a thing), like San Diego’s Pacific Surf School for you Cali-based gals. Grab gear from Billabong, a beginner’s board and take to the waves—you’ll be a super fit surfer babe in no time!
