Rated ‘R’ Romance

Fifty Shades of Grey (E.L. James): You’d have to be living under a rock to not have heard about this hardcore love story between an inexperienced recent college grad and a multimillionaire businessman. The Fifty Shades trilogy explores the connection (and sex-capades!) that Anastasia and Christian have, all while having to overcome some, er, obstacles and personal preferences, shall we say. Sure, the writing’s not Shakespeare, but the author does go to place you’d never think of, and you’ll surely be happy to get there!

On The Island (Tracey Garvis-Graves): Okay, once we tell you the premise of this book, you may think we’re crazy, but we promise it’s an amazing read! Trapped on an island after a terrible wreck, 18-year-old T.J. and his tutor, 30-year-old Anna, are forced to work together and live together as the hopes of survival are growing slimmer as each day passes. Although they’re finding ways to survive, their other, shall we say, physical needs are not being met, so they walk a tightrope when they realize it may just be the two of them forever. This is a truly captivating love and survival story, one that will stay with you way beyond the last page!

Beautiful Disaster (Jamie McGuire): Sometimes love isn’t always easy, pretty or clearly defined, and that is exactly what this unconventional—yet hardcore—love story between two college students is all about. The cardigan-wearing preppy girl catches the eye of the bad boy in an instant, and we’re then taken on a journey of their love story. Although there is tons of love to go around in this novel, the author does an exceptional job of showcasing the messy side of love that is often left out!

‘Me Talk Pretty One Day’ is absolutely hilarious, and ‘Stolen Prey’ looks up my alley.

Not sure what the fuss over ’50 Shades’ is– the little bit that I did read was laughably bad! I’ve heard that the author had no grasp of what an actual safe BDSM relationship ought to be like, which is kind of troubling, but then, it started life as a ‘Twilight’ fanfic, so I don’t know what I should have expected. Better fanfiction with better romance/sex exists out there for free, no matter what your tastes, if that’s what you’re after. Not sure why I should pay for it just because the writer changed a few details and took out the vampirism.

Lovehampton and How The Other Half Hamptons are both great summer reads!
I haven’t read any of these here, but I will (okay maybe not the 50 Shades one because I heard it’s actually bad, but the other two).
