How Long Would You Wait to Walk Down the Aisle?

When to Walk Away

That being said, while you definitely shouldn’t rush into an engagement, you need to know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away, know when to run. When you’ve been dating for 5+ years and he still hasn’t popped the question, it’s understandable if you feel like you can’t wait any longer, but if you have to ask yourself “when is he going to propose already?!” the deadline’s probably already passed. The key is good ol’ communication—you simply have to find out if you two are on the same page. If in the back of his mind, he has no intention of proposing but you can’t give up the expectation of marriage, then it’s obvious it’s not going to work in the long run. Whether you stick around five more days, five months or five years, eventually you’ll realize you’ll have to part ways if you’re going to really get what you want.

took me 6 years, looking back i was still a bit young but no regrets, relationships take time to grow and mature before you get to marriage…worth the wait to make it last

I waited 10 yrs… We dated had fun then we decided we wanted to start a family so we took the vows. 27 yrs (17 married) and 2kids later, marriage is alot of work, but going strong.

I still don’t think marriage is important, bc it’s just a piece of paper to me. There are more important things in my life such as a career and giving back to the community and helping those in need. BUT, I’ve always think that dating longer and waiting is much better than those who get hitch after barely a year. I never take those seriously, and most of the time, they end up getting divorced. Wait at least several years.
