Chick Lit Flicks: Fave Big-Screen Adaptations
Don’t have time to sit down and read an entire book? Ugh, join the club! These ever-busy days, my reading time’s been relegated to thumbing through Vogue on the subway to work—not exactly the stuff of literary scholars. But just because we don’t have the time doesn’t mean we have to neglect our favorite reads—you can hang out with the chick lit characters you know and love thanks to a magical little invention known as the movie. Revisit your literary loves with these great book-to-big screen adaptations!

Bridget Jones’s Diary
Ms. Jones and me, we go way back. But when I can’t fit a reread of Helen Fielding’s hilarious ’96 novel into my sched, a few hours spent cracking up with Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth is the perfect way to get my Jones fix. The 2001 film hits all the hilarity of Fielding’s novel, and while some diehards were worried about Zellweger’s Brit brogue, the American actress more than rose to the occasion to play the lovably accident-prone protagonist. And casting Firth and Grant definitely didn’t hurt either. Having those two fighting over her—is this chick lucky or what?!

Post a CommentNice. The book is usually better.
I usually prefer action movies to chick flicks– and a good horror novel or mystery to chick lit– but I have to admit, a couple of these are on my ‘must watch’ list even so… (I don’t think I could sit through The Notebook, though)
Gota go with the classic.. The notebook! Cry every time!!
love the notebook
I LOVE THE BRIDGET JONE’S DIARY!!
books are usually better
I have read four of these books but that was many years ago. These days time to just lounge and read a good book seems like a vague memory. I also agree with Oohlalovie the Notebook was better in the movie form then the book. But Gone with the Wind and Pride and Prejudice were better in written form for me.
I have seen all the movies but I have only read about 2 books. I like that the movie adaptation stays somewhat with the story line
love the notebook but i only saw the movie
Gotta read and see some of these books and movies! I read most of them though!
The movie The Notebook was better than the book. The book was written like it was for a 5th grader. Sparks is a great romance writer, but the movies always turn out better than his books.
