So Fresh & So Clean: Spring Cleaning How To’s
At Shecky’s Girls’ Night Out event in New York City in March, I had the fortune of chatting with Jaclyn Gross, the founder of Tip Top Organizing, a company specializing in helping people clear the clutter from every area of their home, from the office to the basement. Our chat got me thinking—what are the best ways to get a home in tip-top shape for spring? Well, I’ve rounded up my own tips and tricks for how to survive the spring cleaning process and how to freshen and lighten your space this season!
Start with a walk-through.
To get started, walk through your home and start tossing items you no longer need. Say goodbye to your old magazines, expired makeup, clothing that doesn’t fit and whatever else can’t be used. It’s as simple as that. This will give you much more space to comfortably work with everything else you already own (and need), as well as room to buy new things you may need for the season, like cute new clothes for spring! Plus, dumping your trash in these pink polka dot garbage bags ($9.95 on amazon.com) may make it just a little more fun.
Put those household cleaners to work.
After you’ve taken the time to get rid of the clutter, get started on the actual cleaning process. Wipe down your windows from top to bottom, mop or vacuum your floors, clean your kitchen counter tops, give your bathroom sink and tub a good scrubbing and clean just about every other nook and cranny in your space. Tip: jamming out to your favorite songs while cleaning definitely makes the process funner! To add a dose of pretty to the routine, consider using a lightly scented cleaner like Mrs. Meyer’s Lavender All Purpose Cleaner ($7.99 on mrsmeyers.com).
Get organized.
Are you getting frustrated with shuffling through a big bin filled with makeup every morning or digging through your closet for what seems like eons, only to feel like you have nothing to wear? Think about the different spaces in your home like these that drive you absolutely crazy and what you can do to make using them more efficient. It could be as simple as getting a small shelving unit for your makeup or color-coding your clothing. For instance, Muji makes acrylic cases is perfect for storing all of your makeup and beauty products ($25.25 on muji.com). Happy spring cleaning!

All of this is so true. I need to start it asap and get it out of the way!
Got laid out by a cold, so once I’m back on my feet, I’ll have a lot of spring cleaning to catch up with…
Started with the kitchen and the the bedrooms. Already tossed old beauty products and added colors to the bathroom
I always dread Spring cleaning. However, it is time to GET IT DONE! There’s nothing better than a sparkly clean house with room for some nice new stuff!
I love opening the windows in spring and letting the fresh air make the house feel cleaner.
I love Spring cleaning time. It is the only time my husband doesn’t question what’s being thrown away! One thing that is a MUST in my house is a TO-DO list, not for just the husband but for the kids and more importantly MYSELF (believe it or not my family loves TO-DO lists)…I make a list of all the things that need to be addressed or that I would like to be address and sort the list by what I feel is priority and go down the line. Some how, some way, it just seems like I get alot more done when I’m crossing things off of a list.
SPRING CLEANING????? NOOOOOOOO, I DO NOT WANT TO DO ANY SPRING CLEANING (even though I will), but boy it is that time of the year again. OMG!!!!! GREAT ADVICE FOR THE CLEANING PROCESS. WE CAN THROW AWAY THIS OLD STUFF WE DO NOT USE OR NEED AND MAKE ROOM FOR THE NEW PRODUCTS THAT WE WILL BUY AT GIRL’S NIGHT OUT!!!!!!!
I usually do things in chunk so I don’t have a tons to do. For example the first day I’ll take care of my clothes. Throw the ones I don’t want or donate them, wash and fold the ones I want and put them away. The next day I’ll take care of objects such as magazines, letters, and so on. The third day I’ll dust sweep mop, wash the sheets and wala I’m done. It usually takes me about 3 or 4 days.
Need to spring clean!
Will Do!
Was planning on doing some cleaning today since I’m off…
