Faves & Fails from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012

1 2 3 4 5

Since we’re in the middle of murky February there’s been one thing on our minds recently—spring fashion. But when Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week hits New York twice a year, our mindsets time warp into thinking two seasons ahead—a.k.a. a full year. So while it’s not the best gauge of what to wear right now, the fashion is always fun to look at. Take a peep at some of the best/worst trends I spotted and vote on your faves/fails.

Muted prints:
Prints always pack a punch on the runways, but this season the patterns were subdued versions of tried ‘n’ true favorites. At Rebecca Taylor, the loud spotty prints a la leopard of the past few MBFW seasons took a cooler turn in quieter colors. And Mara Hoffman updated her ode to Mexi-inspired prints from spring/summer with a toned-down color palette.

The verdict: Since some of the patterns that walk the runway are statements in and of themselves, it’s nice to see them offered in more wearable colors. I say yes!

Oh I did not like any of these at all-especially the neutrals and fur! I want some color!

In the aspect of Fashion as Art, the architect of these pieces are done well. But as ready-wear, I could see some working and others needing work.

What I like about runway fashion is that it can be beautifully artistic. I like to see the fashion to pick out signature pieces or ideas that are wearable for the everyday fashionista. Not to hip on some of these together, but deconstructed can be very wearable for a girl like me. I have to agree with the neutrals overkill … reminds me of the color blocking without any real color. Wierd. But otherwise, looking forward to a few springy pieces to update the wardrobe! ;o)
