Get TurboCharged with Dian Griesel
Sometimes the combination of exercise and a healthy diet takes a little tweaking…and that’s where Dian Griesel comes in. Think you don’t have enough time between the office and personal errands to eat right and stay fit? Her new book, TurboCharged, provides a unique formula of minimal work-outs and healthful nutrition so you can still achieve a toned body even if you work insane overtime, have three kids or run your own company (read: you don’t have free time!). As the CEO/Co-Founder of multiple companies, we’d say take her advice!

You hold a Ph. D in nutrition, founded your own public relations firm, have written seven books and are a renowned health professional. How do you do it all?
I often feel like I’m playing three or four different games of chess at the same time. And for the record, I can’t play chess without a cheat sheet telling me which direction the pieces can be moved! Seriously, the secret to doing it all is two-fold: first, approach everything one step at a time, and second, do your best to take time to shut down, meditate, change the mental program and relax. Not easy for any entrepreneur, but essential to success. Clearing your mind somehow provides answers; making it an interesting paradox
What do you think are the keys to success?
I think there are several ways to unlock personal success and I strongly believe success is both a game and a state of mind. You could take a poll of 100 people and probably get 100 different definitions of success. The keys? Never say never; never accept the odds; don’t quit; and surround yourself with the best people you can associate with both personally and professionally who support and believe in your ultimate mission. And, did I mention—have fun? Life is too short.

Can you tell us a little about your book TurboCharged that you co-authored with your brother?
TurboCharged is the culmination of 30 collective years of reading, research and experimentation. My brother and I decided a long time ago that we were going to endlessly test diets and exercise theories to see if we could healthfully find the fastest way to get very lean, while eating healthy foods—but doing the minimum amount of exercise that would still result in strong musculature and a strong heart. We found the unique combination, consisting of remarkably simple factors. TurboCharged is eight steps that deliver a fat-free, toned body in record time with no hunger or moodiness.
You claim to be “50 chronologically and 18 metabolically.” Can you explain what that means?
In TurboCharged, we explain that the only thing any of us wants to “lose” is excess body fat—not weight that is comprised of bones, muscle, essential organs and water, for example. There are scales that measure body fat. A high-quality one can be purchased for about $99. Tanita makes a good one that will give users very important information like: weight, percentage of body fat, hydration level, bone density and my favorite—metabolic age. TurboChargers don’t just get leaner and more toned…we get metabolically younger!
What would you say are the most important things in creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for women?
A healthy lifestyle for women starts with accepting the shape of their bone and muscle structure. Some women are built with big, gorgeous thighs like an Olympic figure skater. Others might be lanky, more like a ballerina. Then there are countless shapes in between.
So—first, acknowledge and love your shape. Then, focus on getting rid of excess fat in a way that is fast—but absolutely naturally high in nutrition. Excess body fat is hurtful to our longevity and ultimate health. Be active, move and walk as much as you can. Then, relax, have fun and strive for balance. Follow these simple principles and you’ll be well on your way to a healthy lifestyle.
