Guys & Awkward Animal Obsessions
While guys who like animals may sound really adorable (we may or may not have once had a men with cute animals calendar here at Shecky’s…), guys obsessed with animals somehow goes from cute to creepy…real fast. Hear some of our Staffers’ stories about guys in their lives who are a little bit too into animals.
“I’m majorly obsessed with dogs and the only person who’s ever rivaled my love is a guy friend of mine. He introduced me to sites like DailyPuppy.com (go immediately) and while this was great for me, it led me to judge him a little bit. A guy with a soft side is one thing, a guy who can out aww me is another. He made my love look like a mild interest, if that!”
“I wouldn’t say obsessed but my BF walks dogs and he sometimes addresses me like he’s talking to one of the dogs (ex. baby talk or short, sharp sentences/words). Needless to say it doesn’t go over very well…EVER! I now only reply to complete sentences, framed with please and thank you.”
“My boyfriend is a cat man. He once had a ginger cat, and he tells about one story a day about his deceased cat. The stories about his pet cat are cute, but he also LOVES other cats—on a recent outing with my family, we spotted an orange-and-black kitty on the street. Not only did my boyfriend follow the cat (he was excited because it looked like “an actual tiger”), saying things like “here, kitty” and making those cat-call sounds, he also made me take multiple pictures of the cat. I give him a cat card for all holidays, anniversaries and birthdays. And you thought only Debbi from “Can’t Hug Every Cat” and spinsters were this in love with cats….”
“I once dated a guy who I had met away at school, so we had never been to one another’s homes. I knew he was from a rural area, but I didn’t know just how rural until word of his animals (bigggg plural) came out. He’d often refer to how cute and darling the animals were, and being a city girl I always assumed they were dogs. That is, until he clarified. I’m talking cows, chickens…the works. And yes, he did use the word darling!”

The cat always gets a hug and kiss in the morning before I do.
I love all animals and my husband does also. We have a cat and my cat is like my baby. I always talk about him at work. My neighbors have two cats that they do not feed, they leave on the porch and really just ignore them. For the past 6 or 7 months my husband and I have been feeding them and giveing them water. I give them snacks when I give my cat the snacks.

YES, ALL MY KIDS ARE ANIMAL LOVERS, AND TWO ARE MY BOYS, I DON’T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH A MAN HAVING A PET AND LOVING THAT PET. ALL PETS NEED LOVE WHETHER FROM FEMAL OR MALE.
LOVE ALL ANIMALS AND LETS STOP ANIMAL TESTING, AND CRUELITY TO ALL ANIMALS BIG AND SMALL
Not obsessed…that’s too far. However, I love a man who loves his pets! Especially dog lovers who take extra care with them. So special.

I dont see a big deal with a man loving his animal. I guess if he was so in love with it that he completely ignored me, then it would bother me. But I have never came across a man like that. Never found a man that has loved dogs more than I do! But I have found one that accepts how passionate I am when it comes to loving and saving animals
my bf has a dog, but i wouldnt say that hes obsessed! he loves his dog, but isnt in love with his dog

my husband is obsessed with our 3 dogs. Especially the one we have had for 6 years. We joke and say that she is his girlfriend, the other woman. LOL He’s not crazy like some of these stories. I think its normal for a man to love his dog but don’t get crazy with it.
My husband is obsessed with our Bernese Mountain Dog. However, it isn’t pyscho like some of these men in the story. It’s a normal amount. It’s good tolove your pets, it helps us live longer.

My husband likes animals, but not like that. I’m the one that is always trying to rescue strays.
It is ok to be really into your pet but there is a line you shouldn’t cross, as in he picks his pet over you or you guys get into huge fights because of the pet. There has to be balance.
I actually don’t see anything wrong with any of those guys. I have two “boys” myself and would love someone who loved them as much as I do. I then wouldn’t have to give reasons as to why I spend so much on doggy treats when they are “just dogs”.
Iv never dated ANYONE that had an animal… for some reason iv only dated guys who had none, and now my husband, hes a little obsessed with his fish tank!! But at least he isnt going crazy over a dog and taking it everywhere or anything!
i love guys that like animals and treats them like family because well…. my dog and cats ARE part of my family. my ex boyfriend would literally kick my cats off the couch if he was laying on it and that NEVER went over well with me. but i have to agree that if a man (or even a friend) is literally OBSESSED and wont shut up about their animals and puts them above me, its annoying and pisses me off.
