“When Sad, Sing”

Happy Hump Day! We know the middle of the week can be a drag, so we’re introducing our bi-weekly series of inspiring posters from best-selling author Karen Salmansohn.

Karen brings fun nuggets of self-help advice on her blog daily (or more than daily!) on notsalmon.com.

AN EDITORS’ TAKE: As the old adage goes, “there’s no use crying over spilled milk.” Yes, I’ve had some things well worth getting upset over in my life, but wallowing in sorrow/anger/hurt, etc. has to end at some point. How do I snap out of a crying jag, a bad fight with my boyfriend, a major failure at work? It takes something funny…or a good song.

As this quote says, “singing” or some other joyful expression like laughter is good at erasing all the bad, at least for a little while. Having the most awful day of all time? If you’re allowed to listen to music at work, turn on your iPod and crank up some feel-good tunes. Or wait till you go home and sing along (even if you’re tone deaf!) to an ep of Glee. And, as shown in the poster, if you can think of a ridiculous tune (ahem, “The Muffin Man”), you’ve got the perfect combo of song and silly.

Karen Salmansohn is a best-selling author with over 1 million books sold. Karen is known for creating self-help for people who wouldn’t be caught dead reading self-help. Some titles: HOW TO BE HAPPY DAMMIT, ENOUGH DAMMIT, THE BOUNCE BACK BOOK, etc. Her fans: Tony Robbins, Jon Stewart, Marisa Tomei, Goldie Hawn, Peter Guber, Tim Ferriss, Gretchen Rubin, etc. Karen not only writes her best-sellers, she also creative directs them—along with her posters—which she calls Inspirational Flashcards, because they quickly remind people how to live their highest potential life.

Karen is a columnist for Oprah.compsychologytoday.comhuffingtonpost.com, and she’s also an international motivational speaker. Her mission: wake up sleepy minds, hearts and spirits so people can live their happiest lives! For more, visit notsalmon.com.

BONUS! If you post your FAVORITE QUOTE in the comments (something you’ve heard, read or always say), Karen will pick one lucky Shecky’s quote per month to morph into a poster (just like the one above!). Best part? Eventually, Karen will be selling some of the sayings as posters, tees or coffee mugs…so you could buy your favorite quote!

PLUS, Check out Karen’s work in person at the Inspiring Art Exhibit and Seminar with “Take Your Life And Un-Stuff It.” Complimentary wine and munchies are included alongside Karen’s amazing artwork and advice.

some one very smart once told me “If all my problems can be solved by money, then my problems really aren’t that big.” So true! I have a loving family, boyfriend, friends, dog, a job, a roof over my head, transportation, etc… life is pretty stinkin’ good.

I agree. It’s normal and healthy to get upset and whatnot over certain things.. but can’t mope around forever. That’s not doing any good.
