I think it’s pretty clear that if a guy is only texting you late night, and never answers any of your other inquiries before 11pm, he’s only looking for one thing…and it’s not an “In a Relationship” Facebook status. Enter, my best friend. She’s gorgeous, funny, smart, has a great bod…but why hasn’t she had a boyfriend in years, you ask? Well, it might not be as extreme as in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but she is definitely one of those girls who commits relationship suicide…before there even is a relationship.

The current guy she is “seeing” is clearly in it just for the booty (and I’m not talking about money). They only get together every couple of weeks, they don’t go out on dates or watch movies. They don’t really do anything besides hook up. And yet, here she is, completely smitten with this sleazeball. She gets mad at him for silly reasons and then yells at him, to which he’ll quickly reply with a ‘whatever’ and sign offline (yes, offline…isn’t that sign #1 that this thing isn’t serious? I stopped having arguments over the internet in eighth grade).

It is so blatantly obvious to me that he has no feelings for her. But when I even remotely hint this, or suggest that she see other people, she shoots back that she doesn’t want to; she only has eyes for him. Really? If I even think for a second that the guy I’m into isn’t interested in me, I get out of there so fast. So now not only is she being overly optimistic (as kindly put as I can!) about this guy, but she is also too stubborn to even pursue other options. And heaven forbid another girl writes on his Facebook wall…we won’t even go into that.

Now I love my friend, but I really don’t know how to handle this appropriately without being overly blunt and hurting her feelings. How do I get her to move on if she’s being so stubborn? How can I be a supportive friend and still give her the advice she needs to hear? Have you been in a similar situation?
