This Mother’s Day, Help Moms Worldwide

We all know being a mother is one of the toughest jobs around. Let’s face it—mom is our cook, chauffeur, maid, nurse, psychologist and much more all wrapped into one, and with Mother’s Day this Sunday, it’s time to remember moms need love too. Go beyond brunch and greeting cards this year and honor mothers worldwide by getting involved in some mommy-centric charities.

Every Mother Counts – We’ve told you about this organization, run by Christy Turlington, before but just in case you need a refresher: Those of us in modern and economically-sound countries often associate miraculous births with things like octuplets. But for many women around the world surviving childbirth at all is a difficult process. Every Mother Counts is a non-profit charity organization that reaches out to mothers in poor and rural countries to help provide adequate care for mothers during childbirth and educate women on reproductive health and services.

As Every Mother Counts informs us “every 90 seconds a woman dies in childbirth” and a gigantic 90-percent of those deaths are completely preventable. Those are some alarming stats! So donate your time, voice or funds with one of Every Mother Counts’ Take Action projects (they’ve got everything from donating your old cell phone to mothers in need to helping provide motorcycle transportation to moms in labor).
