“Working Mother? Isn’t That Phrase Redundant?”
Happy Hump Day! We know the middle of the week can be a drag, so we’re introducing our bi-weekly series of inspiring posters from best-selling author Karen Salmansohn. Karen brings fun nuggets of self-help advice on her blog daily (or more than daily!) on notsalmon.com.
But this self-help is anything but weird and whiny—Karen’s tidbits are poignant, relatable and sometimes hysterical. Read on to see what we think!
AN EDITOR’S TAKE: With Mother’s Day almost here (it’s this Sunday if you haven’t gotten any gifts for mom yet!), we’re reminded of all the time mom has clocked in to raise us, her daughters. Whether it was cutting your peanut butter sandwiches into a heart-shape for lunch in third grade or taking two jobs to ensure that you could attend your dream college, so many moms we know work it!
To us, this quote means that whether your mama had a job or was the stay-at-home type, really, truly honor her for all those hours of labor she has endured—inside the delivery room and out. As some of us already know, raising kids isn’t easy, and career woman or not, it’s hard but rewarding work. Go, moms!
Karen Salmansohn is a best-selling author with over 1 million books sold. Karen is known for creating self-help for people who wouldn’t be caught dead reading self-help. Some titles: HOW TO BE HAPPY DAMMIT, ENOUGH DAMMIT, THE BOUNCE BACK BOOK, etc. Her fans: Tony Robbins, Jon Stewart, Marisa Tomei, Goldie Hawn, Peter Guber, Tim Ferriss, Gretchen Rubin, etc. Karen not only writes her best-sellers, she also creative directs them—along with her posters—which she calls Inspirational Flashcards, because they quickly remind people how to live their highest potential life.
Karen is a columnist for Oprah.com, psychologytoday.com, huffingtonpost.com, and she’s also an international motivational speaker. Her mission: wake up sleepy minds, hearts and spirits so people can live their happiest lives! For more, visit notsalmon.com.
BONUS! If you post your FAVORITE QUOTE in the comments (something you’ve heard, read or always say), Karen will pick one lucky Shecky’s quote per month to morph into a poster (just like the one above!). Best part? Eventually, Karen will be selling some of the sayings as posters, tees or coffee mugs…so you could buy your favorite quote!
GIRL TALK TIME: What does this quote mean to you? What’s inspiring you to honor your mom this Mother’s Day? What quote would you like Karen to turn into an inspirational poster or other product? Post now and you could be famous!
