Fitness Trends That Seem Like a Joke…But Aren’t

When it comes to something as serious as our health, it’s a bit mind-boggling to think of how many wacky things there are out there. And with April Fools’ Day approaching this Friday, it’s even harder to differentiate what’s for real and what’s a hoax. That’s why I love Shape’s review of three seemingly out-there fitness trends that actually, honestly work.

The first, strip-tease aerobics, is one of my faves. Just a few years ago, hearing about something like Sheila Kelley’s S Factor may have made us skeptical, but today the S Factor has started a fun, sexy and healthy workout revolution. (PSST: See Claudia’s interview with Sheila Kelley right now!) The second weird exercise is vibration training…. Lest you think of sex toys, this exercise actually increases muscle activity for the ultimate burn! The last, and arguably the oddest, is the Panasonic Core Trainer ($1,499.95) which looks like something fit for an inebriated night at a Western-themed watering hole, but actually works to improve core strength.

Strip Aerobics seems like something that would make you feel sexier while making your body sexier (and healthier). Definitely something you have to be comfortable with yourself to try out!

Guess I’m to simple when it comes to working out… I don’t really want to be coordinated and try to dance, set me in a weight training class, spin class, or a simple run and I’m happy! I tried a striptease class and while I could tell I burned calories, I’m skeptical I got the same burn for my time.

I found the Carmen Electra Striptease workout videos a few years ago, and I LOVE them!! So fun and effective! I don’t know how to dance, and it actually taught me some new dance moves as well. :)

It’s kind of common sense when it comes to what works and what won’t. Even if you hold a couple of dumb bells and dance around will burn some calories and tone up those arms.. even though it may sound silly.
