February is Black History Month, but instead of honoring African-American women who have made history in the past, we’d like to focus on five African-American females who are making history and will continue to do so into 2011 and far beyond. It was hard to choose, but this list is our top five in no particular order.
Oprah: Is there anything she hasn’t accomplished? She rose from a childhood burdened by hardship to become, amongst other things, one of the most influential woman in the world, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and the richest African-American in the 20th century.
Yes, as a television host, actress, author, producer and philanthropist, there’s no doubt that Oprah is inspiring. And while we’re bidding her talk show goodbye, we’re certainly not seeing the last of her legacy. 2011 thus far saw the start of OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) for constant re-runs and exciting new shows, plus we still have O Magazine and Oprah.com!
