5 Fashion Week Predictions

1 2 3 4 5

Trying to predict fashion is much like trying to foresee the questions in an exam. While you will be readily prepared for some of the material, much of it will come as a complete surprise. Those are my thoughts as I stare into my crystal ball, looking forward to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York (ahem, starting tonight).

After much hedging of bets, here are my trend predictions for A/W 11…dollar for each one I get right?!

BLACK SWAN

Winter is always full of drama and exuberance, so I will not be surprised to see Black Swan play inspiration to many a collection. Kate and Laura Mulleavy already pledged allegiance to the cause, designing costumes for the film, and I am sure all those leftover feathers will have been put to good use adorning pieces for Rodarte.

While dramatic black often surfaces in winter collections, this time it will be much more sinister. Expect to be wearing feathered shoulders, waistbands, and full-on crow-like jackets. The eye makeup will be optional, but forget about channeling any innocence; this look should be executed with all the attitude of Kunis and the perfection of Portman.

I’m already loving orange shades, bought a top that reminds me of pumpkin and autumn

I think Black Swan will be a trend. Camel has been around forever. I don’t consider it a trend. More of a basic.
