Exercise at the Office
Fitting exercise in gets especially challenging with a jam-packed holiday schedule. Lucky for you, I’ve found some amazing exercises you can do…while you’re at work! Try these simple stretches mid-day after a healthy lunch, instead of a 3pm candy bar…or whenever.

HAMSTRING STRETCH

All you need to pull off a solid hamstring stretch at work is a chair! Sit near the edge and have one leg bent with your foot resting on the floor, since you’re most likely already sitting. Extend the other leg so the heel is balancing on the ground. Make sure you’re sitting up straight so that you are as elongated as possible, then bend forward a bit at the hip, with your back still as flat as a board and now at about a 45-degree angle with the floor.
Hold on to the side of the chair with your hands. Keep your back straight and hips bent with one leg extended for between 30 seconds and a minute, then switch legs. Your hamstring will be totally stretched and ready to ward off those pesky Charley Horses! Pictured above is a standing version of the stretch.

Post a CommentI actually cycle at work. I saw it in a magazine awhile back. It’s called an In Stride Cycle and I got it on amazon.com. Even just 20 minutes i feel more energized at work! i have it on the lowest resistance though…don’t want to be sweating at work. lol

Whoa, excellent!
Great idea Lisa. Thanks for sharing!!
I hate sitting all day.. I try to get up and at least stretch every so often
I feel so schlumpy after awhile!
I use to not pay much attention to stretching, but my body told me otherwise by giving me neck pain. So its important everyone to prevent. Believe me you don’t want to get the pain first. It really slowed me down and I couldn’t go out much and do my usual stuff. I’m better now but it took quite a while to get better. Almost a year I would say. So, everyone take good care of yourselves.
Good tips. I always try to stretch a little every hour. I use to have neck pain from sitting too long. Now I’m more careful to get up and walk around a bit and stretch.
Hard time to find time to work out so its a nice alternative
I have been doing some of these already! Will have to try and make more of a routine.
I will definitely have to incorporate this into my routine! It’s always good to take a break from sitting all day.
