In honor of our 2010 Beauty at Its Best Awards, it was only natural that we asked our resident makeup expert Megan O’Brien for her advice.

Nich’s question: “Hi Meg, I am looking for a versatile lip gloss with color. At the moment I use Lancome Electric Pink. I have received tons of compliments, but I want something a little different. What do you suggest for my African-American skin tone?”

Hi Nich! First, let me say that I love it when I see darker complexions embracing pinks! Rosy hues used to be shied away from and only plums and browns were getting love, but from looking at your profile I can see that you’re very knowledgeable about makeup trends and aren’t afraid to try new shades! Good for hue!

The first lippy in my arsenal that would look great on you is a creamy twist-up by Tarte called LipSurgence ($24) in “Amused.” I own it and I rock it! It has a gorgeous sheen and the color just “pops” on your face, brightening you up. It feels super, and you can apply more for a darker shade or just use a smidge for your “natural days.” Sometimes I even use it on my cheeks and blend it for a nice and flushed glow. Plus, it has been shown to increase lip’s moisture content 6,000 percent in 28 days! Not bad, right?
