In a month filled with baseball playoffs, football and the start of hockey, our Shecky’s Staffer contemplates on something a little mystifying to her: Why is it sooo sexy when guys play sports? Personally, she’s not feeling the baseball babes ‘cause she’d rather watch studly men play action-packed, brutally barbaric sports. “I’m not into violence or anything (hi, I’m the girl who has to use every ounce of self-control to not call my mom or boyfriend when I’m up all night after seeing a slasher flick), but I find it such a turn-on when guys play super-sweaty, savage sports. After attending a pre-season NHL game (my boyfriend loves the Rangers), a boxing match (FDNY vs. NYPD) and watching my beloved Sunday football (great win, G-Men!) in the past week, my love for sexy, sporty men is stronger than ever.

I definitely go for sporty guys (save the World of Warcraft nerd—can he just not count?!). I’ve dated dudes who have played rugby, hockey, lacrosse…. There’s something about watching a guy in the heat of competition, his hair falling into his face (so long as it’s not a hockey mullet or lax flow), sweat pouring down his brow, angry and fixated on annihilating his enemies—the other team. Call it cavewomanly, but it makes me feel sexy and I think about how he’ll be using all that manly strength on me later on (after he’s showered, of course!). And, obviously, the well-muscled godly body a guy gets from playing sports doesn’t hurt either (drooooool).

So whether it’s a famous sports fella (Eli Manning and Henrik Lundqvist, if you’re reading this, I’ve already cleared you on my celebrity exemption list) or my own boyfriend (a hockey player whose man crush on Lundi exceeds my own affections), I think sporty guys are the studliest things out there. They are some of the last real remnants of yesteryear’s beastly warriors, except instead of fighting in face paint with spears, they’re feuding for a puck and bloodshed is hopefully kept to a dull nosebleed after a bad body-check. As for the mellower sports like baseball and golf (sorry, Tiger!), you’re oooout/I’m not fiending fore you (okay, too much SportsCenter…).
