What’s On Your Bucket List?

I spent a good portion of this past weekend watching a The Buried Life marathon, a reality show on MTV (the season two premiere was last night!) that follows four 20-something guys who travel across the country and spend their time crossing items off their bucket list. For each goal they accomplish, they also help a stranger along the way cross something off their list.

The items vary, from making a toast at a stranger’s wedding to playing basketball with the president, and the people they encounter are just as random. An 11-year-old girl wants to conquer her fear of heights by going on a roller coaster, while a local artist wants to connect with the son he never knew. The series is poignant and inspiring, yet fun and lighthearted (cough, there are four guys, any of whom I’d be happy to date).

With every episode came the same question: “What do you want to do before you die?” This question was posed to all of the featured “strangers.” This and the eponymous poem (which the show was named after!) resonated with me and got me thinking about my own bucket list. While it started as “go everywhere” and “see everything,” I was able to carve out at least five specifics. This list is certainly a work in progress…

1. Swim laps at the San Alfonso del Mar swimming pool in Chile (largest in the world at 19.77 acres)
2. Contribute my time or money (or both) to researching and raising awareness for a worthy cause
3. Write the great American novel
4. Learn (and love) a new language
5. Always carry five extra $5 bills and give them to homeless people in need

GIRL TALK TIME: What’s on your bucket list? Have you checked anything off of it yet? Did you watch The Buried Life last night? Have you watched in the past? Do you have a crush on any of the guys?

I was a bit skeptical when I read that a group of 20-somethings had a bucket list, but it all came together by the end of the paragraph. It’s definitely something to think about because there is no age on death. Thanks, guys!

When I was 16, my cousin died at the age of 23. Since then, I have a bucket list and I live life to the fullest. I have MANY “to dos” checked off already but I open to new things so my bucketlist just keeps growing. I hope to check each and every “to do” off that list! I am now 23 years old and my cousin’s death is hitting me hard because I know just how young he was…. That bucket list keeps me going!
