Eye Makeup That Stays All Day, PLUS Ask Meg a Makeup Question!

Julie’s question: “My eye makeup always creases by the end of the day. I use an eye primer but that still doesn’t work.”

Hi Julie,

Oily eyelids are no fun! Let’s look at the positive side of having oily skin though, you’re going to look younger longer naturally. Yup, those annoying oils actually protect and hydrate to ward off wrinkles and age spots.

Now for the annoying part: keeping eye makeup on! I’m assuming you’re steering clear of any oil-based moisturizer and that you’re not moisturizing your lids at all. Also, don’t over-wash your face, only once or twice a day is best. If you wash excessively, you’re stripping your skin of oils and guess what your skin’s response is? Yup, it will make more oil.

Let’s start with a book I am obsessed with right now: How to Wash Your Face by Dr. Barney Kenet ($17.95 at Amazon.com). He’s based in NYC but his speed dial reads very Hollywood. Demi? Sandra? Yup, he sees the well-heeled and the well-known.

This book has a great section offering pricey and steal products that work, so it fits anyone’s budget. Before we pile on the war paint it’s important to start with a clean, healthy canvas!

I spoke with Dr. Kenet specifically about Julie’s issue. Dr. Kenet offered up two products to start your day with.

I use Urban Decay eyeshadow primer. I find it works really well, especially if you have oily lids. My eyeshadow will never stay on me and creases and fades like no tomorrow, and this product works really well on me.

I use Mary Kay Mineral Eye colors and they tend to stay on all day with out the primer. I love the eye colors.

How do you wear dark eye makeup and have the smokey eye w/o “closing” your eyes and make them pop and look bigger?

I havevery oily skin, but I also enjoy the fact about the looking younger longer factor!

I truly believe that each individual need to appreciate themselves and their looks ~ skin types too! This book may be a tool for them to understand and educate themselves.

The next thing I would suggest is to seek a dermatologist and then a great makeup artist to enhance your unique features!

Seriously who would buy a book on how to wash your face?

Isn’t some of this stuff common sense?

As for the actual products suggested in the article, I have a Mac paint but I’ve yet to try it (it’s red), and I’ve used UD primer potion just once.

What works like a charm for me is MAC shadesticks. I use that as my primer then apply shadow and I’m all set for the entire day into the night.

I so want to try that Falsies mascara. Only 4.50? For some reason I thought it would be more expensive I’m running out to Walgreens to snag a tube!
