Ombre Hair: Fail or Fave?
Remember when letting your roots show was a definite no-no? Welcome to the heyday of two-toned a.k.a. ombre locks. This low-maintenance, kinda-crazy coif hit the scene hard last fall (just check out the daring versions on Refinery29), was a staple with stars this summer, and has gone mainstream since then. Yep, September’s Lucky even had Olivia Villanti, associate online fashion editor, giving it a go.
But don’t go DIY dipping your hair in bleach just yet. Ask a stylist or pro to give you a fool-proof fade-out—it’s the perfect in-between look to grow out your lighter summer blonde for a darker fall color. Or you could just keep your two-tone tresses when the weather gets colder—stars like Rachel Bilson, Whitney Port, Lauren Conrad, Drew Barrymore and Alexa Chung have been spotted with this look.
With more celebs like Kristin Cavallari joining in by the day, we’re pretty sure this trend is here to stay, but only time (and the ‘dos at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week) will tell us for sure. (PS—we also can’t decide if we love or despise KC’s Farrah Fawcett mane.) Readers, before we get all tressed-out, we turn to you for your insights….

Post a CommentI’m glad its in, but not for me!
i think it looks nice actually and the next time i schedule my hair appt i think i will look into it.
The more I see that picture, the more I am moving toward nay. It’s starting to look tired and not fresh looking.
glad this is in! haha
I get natural highlights from the sun in the summertime…they’re great!
I’ll try it out. I hope it looks good on me.
My roots have a natural highlight from going to the beach this summer and my ends are still black and I love the color combo
I’ve noticed it more lately. It does look good on certain celebs.. and it does look nice if it is done right. Have to be careful.
It looks good on some.. but me.. I go every 5 weeks religiously!
my hair has never been dyed before
elll not good at all
i think it looks good on some people.
Don’t like the look.
I think that it is so cute, but with my hair texture and length, I will have to wait to try it myself
Funny you should ask……For the past 10 years I colored my hair golden bronze. About 6 months ago it was time to color again & I didn’t, because I wanted my hair to have it’s original color. SOOOO for the past year my roots were dark & my ends were very light. I DID NOT like the way it looked & the process was taken tooooo long, so I colored my entire hair dark dark brown. My hair is now back to it’s regular color just a hair line Darker, and I love it.
Not for me! It may be low maintenance but when you have gray hair it isn’t a good look.
Yay for me, low maintenance.
