Fall Fashion Spotlight: Take a Leap with Leopard Prints

We’re in love with leopard print this season and our girlfriends (PSST! Winners for our National Girlfriend Awards will be announced TOMORROW!) at SHOP.COM agree. Simona Supekar, Fashion Editor for SHOP.COM, has the scoop.

I love a fashion challenge, and for me, figuring out how to incorporate leopard prints into my wardrobe has always provided a formidable one. The leopard print trend is more refined and varied than it used to be, with powerful yet tasteful pieces that exude all of the animal magnetism without any of the chintz from days before.

Besides finding leopard prints that roar with power without being completely gaudy, the other challenge is finding leopard prints that are affordable. Here are some great styles that aren’t too expensive and that just about anyone can pull off.

Wrap it Up: It’s easy to add a touch of leopard to a power outfit using a simple leopard print cardigan. Nothing says Queen of the Pride (or is it the Queen of a Leap?) like showing your spots on the outside. That’s why this glamorous Halogen Sequin Leopard Print Cardigan ($148 on SHOP.COM) is just the thing, deliciously combining two of fall’s popular trends: leopard print and gray.

Sling it On: Another great way to add some meow to your wardrobe without going overboard is to accessorize with a leopard print. Try a leopard print handbag like this Jessica Simpson Gin Lane Hobo ($88 on eBags.com). So fierce, but so affordable.

Red All Over: Who says leopard prints have to be black and tan? Sometimes it’s nice to have a subtle hint of print and let the color do the talking, like this bold red leopard print jersey dress ($139.99 on SHOP.COM) from Shelli Segal’s Laundry line. Red + leopard print = fierce.

Spot On: Putting leopard print shoes in your repertoire will elevate even the most mundane of outfits into an extraordinary one. Finding quality catty kicks that won’t bite deeply into your pocketbook is a challenge, but here are a great pair of Via Spiga Mindy 2 Leopard Print pumps (on sale at Smartbargains for $83.98!!!). These. Are. Fantastic.

Get Entrenched: If you really want to make a statement, find a great leopard print trenchcoat and get ready to get noticed. Shoot for a trench that’s not too shiny or made with PVC or you risk looking a little low-grade. That’s why this DKNY brown leopard print trench ($86.99 on SHOP.COM) is a perfect choice. It’s got a great urban feel to it with the subtlety of the print, while still giving you the feline fantasticness synonymous with a leopard print.

Simona’s Print Tip: With any bold animal print, jazz it up with a hint of red, like red lips or a red scarf!
