An Easy Emmy Event of Your Own!

The Creative Arts Emmys have already been presented this past weekend (go Betty White!), but the 62nd Primetime Emmys are coming up fast. This weekend, Jimmy Fallon will host the gala event on NBC, honoring those on and off camera in the TV world. The Emmys are always a fun event to watch, whether it’s to see if your favorite series snags a statue or to check out the red carpet fashion. A Sunday Night Emmy Party is the perfect weekend wrap-up before you and your Best Successful Girlfriend Crew (VOTE NOW!) head back to the work week.

Food: The Emmys are a classy event, and the food you serve should reflect that. Cheese and crackers are classy, classic and easy to put together. Cheese shops or larger grocery stores with prominent cheese departments will help you pick out a well-rounded group of cheeses. Otherwise, deter to Martha Stewart, who’s always got our back in the entertaining department. Serve with water crackers (try a variety like cracked black pepper!) that are light and crispy, a whole grain type that can stand up to a more pungent cheese, and melba toasts, which are the perfect accompaniment to soft, spreadable cheeses.

To add a little more substance to your soirée, pizzas are an easy and delicious crowd-pleaser. Buy pizza dough, either frozen or at your local pizzeria, and stretch or cut it to desired size. We love the idea of making a few smaller pies to mix it up with loads of different topping combos. To make this even more summer-friendly, cook the pizzas right on your grill (real or faux!). Brush the dough with olive oil, add toppings and let sit atop grill until cooked. Fun extras could be caramelized onions, marinated artichokes, fresh basil and sliced olives. Get creative or have guests help with assembly.

Chocolate-covered strawberries are a quick but impressive dessert. Melt chocolate (chips, discs, bars) over a double boiler or in the microwave, dip strawberries (pretzels too!) and lay atop a piece of parchment or wax paper. Drizzle with other chocolate shades like white, dark or milk to add contrast. Let chocolate harden and enjoy!

Drink: Buy a few bottles of (cheap) champagne (or cider!) and pick up disposable champagne flutes to toast this excuse for a Sunday night par-tay.

Décor: Keep décor elegant, just like the Emmys themselves, with a black and white color scheme. Since the party is taking place around the TV, decorations are minimal. All you’ll need are cocktail napkins and small plates, plus whatever serverware is best for…whatever you serve! The Black 7” Square Textured Border Plates ($3.99/12 at Shindigz.com) will make colorful food pop against the solid background, and matching napkins are available too ($4.49/24).

Fun: Have a little fun of your own on Emmy night by playing fashion police! Create score cards numbered 1-10 and hand out to party-goers upon arrival. While you nosh on your delicious snacks, rate your favorite (or least favorite) celebs’ outfit choices, on the red carpet and on stage. See where you and your friends agree and where you don’t, plus you’ll get inspired for the coming fall season!

Those chocolate strawberried look sooo good. They are expensive though to buy for a big party.

I only watch award shows for the fashion, not so much the “awards” A bunch of celebrities patting themselves on the back for the great jobs they did is kind of too much to take!
