Deanna B., Lisa P., Ivy S.

Friends Deanna Brown, Lisa Phoenix and Ivy Smith formed Golden Girls and have been able to realize their dreams of having a successful business that gives back. Recognizing the need for a trustworthy yet enjoyable means of exchanging unwanted jewelry for cash, they created Golden Girls in May 2008, specializing in the purchase of precious metals. In just two years, Golden Girls has provided employment opportunities for more than 300 women in the U.S. and Canada. The company has also donated an unprecedented $600,000 to deserving charity and community partners.

Rose V., Serafina N.

Cousins by birth, BFFs by choice. We have endured skinned knees, broken hearts and the loss of loved ones together. I always knew we were meant to do great things and to make a difference in the world. With our health and wellness company on the move, we are changing lives together. Her “no matter what” attitude and passion for people is contagious.

Lisa

My best friend Lisa and I were partners in crime (or maybe in science!) as we sat across from each other and pursued our PhDs. She taught me everything I needed to know about turning into a successful scientist. She’s a mom, scientist, wife and best friend that is truly successful because she makes juggling it all look good!

Cali M.

Cali has single-handedly started a Bridal Beauty business that has really taken off over the last nine years. It all started after her oldest son was diagnosed with ADHD. Cali was working in a salon but her hours became too hectic for her to be able to be available to her son the way she wanted. So, she quit her job and took out a very small ad in her local paper advertising her talents as a wedding day hairstylist and makeup artist. One day, Cali awoke to 27 emails from brides searching for someone to make them beautiful! Over the last six years, Cali has had two more beautiful children, she was the sole bread-winner for six months after her husband’s job loss, and over the last year her oldest son was newly diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome. She continues to travel all over and make women beautiful for the most important day of their lives. I even quit my “day job” to train as a makeup artist! Now I get to work with her and learn from the best.

Amy S., Jessica B., Stacie B., Stacey G.

My friends Amy Stein, Jessica Bahr, Stacie Broussard and I have all left the corporate hamster wheel to strike out on our own. Amy owns the thriving Beyond Basics Physical Therapy in Midtown Manhattan, Jessica runs her own Sketches Design graphic design studio, Stacie owns a hip boutique, Browse Myrtle’s House, and I own Stacey Grant Wellness, a traveling wellness business. We have all listened to each other’s staff, financial and growth complaints, but when all is said and done, we are entrepreneurs at heart. We gladly work 60+ hour weeks, dream about marketing campaigns, and bore our partners (but not each other) with ways to improve ourselves and our businesses.
