Pets Are a Girl’s Best Friend
The saying might go “dogs are a man’s best friend” but we beg to differ. Here at Shecky’s, our pets are a girl’s best friend. Yes, National Girlfriends Day is all about our (hopefully) non-furry friends, but we just had to pay homage to the best listeners, best de-stressers and all-around funniest pals we have. Take a peek, get ready for some aww-worthy moments and then tell us why your pup, cat, bunny, goldfish, whatever is your best friend.
“My puppy (she is 12 years old, but she’s an eternal puppy) Emma is absolutely one of my best friends. The way I talk about her to people is certainly not normal—it’s definitely obsessive and borderline creepy. It’s cheesy, but she’s always there and loves me unconditionally like any best friend should.”

“I love my dog Gladys so much. When I walk through the door, she gets so excited that she does laps around my apartment and jumps up and down on the couch until she starts panting from exhaustion. Isn’t this how a girl deserves to be greeted?!?”

“My four-pound chihuahua Lucy is the best dog in the whole world. I got her almost four years ago when she was only 12 weeks old, and she’s been my BFF and the LOVE of my life ever since. She’s there for me when I’m happy or sad. She always puts a smile on my face and loves me no matter what. Lucy has also taught me so much responsibility, it’s nice to have someone to be accountable for. She’s the cutest, stinkiest, little brown dog ever. I love Lucy.”

“I found my cat Zoey at Beech Mountain, North Carolina. She was the runt of the litter and her mama had her babies under our mountain cottage deck and left the baby. I found her hiding behind the propane tank and she was so little that she could fit in my shirt pocket. She immediately latched on to me and thought I was her mom. She would sleep on my chest or in my neck nook and to this day comes when I whistle, even from yards away. She follows me everywhere I go when I’m back at home in the ATL and sleeps with me every night. She will sleep in my sink while I do my makeup, and when I sing in the shower she will climb in between the curtains and meow along—obviously, we make a great duet. Because she was the runt, she still looks like a kitten, even at age 14. I miss my baby!”
“I love my dog Connor because no matter how horrible of a day I had, he really doesn’t care. As soon as I open the door, his tail starts wagging, he jumps on me, doesn’t ask any questions and ultimately I forget all about the day.”

“I adopted Teddy (T-Bone/Bones/Tedmund/T-Money) a little over a year ago from a shelter in New Orleans, and he is the happiest/sweetest dog. He loves people and greets everyone with a slobbery kiss. Even though he is fairly big (65 pounds), he is still scared of some smaller animals, which is pretty funny to watch. Every night when I come home from work, he is waiting at the door with some crazy chew-toy, all excited and ready to play.”
“I didn’t adopt my little munchkin Aura…she adopted me. The first time I held her she gave me a “cat kiss” and fell asleep in my arms, so I had no choice. She always greets me at the door, and makes me laugh when she plays and practically does back flips to catch her toys. She’s got all the perks of a dog, without all the responsibility. I heart her!”

“Blue is my family’s thirteen-year-old beagle (old for a purebred!) and he couldn’t be any funnier. Despite his various diseases (I can’t list them, it’s too sad), he still jumps, runs and howls whenever any of our family comes in the door. He’s also the most spoiled member of my family and my parent’s fifth child—it doesn’t stop at the birthday celebrations. He has his own monogrammed seat cover in my dad’s truck and my mom makes him eggs for dinner. He’s still adorable, down for a good belly rub and my baby no matter how old he is.”

Post a CommentOh so true!!
Miniature Shnauzer her name is Vida and she is going on 3 years, still acts like a puppy and one of my fave things to do with her is take her for a drive =-)
We have a Shiba Inu named Tai’son and he is 10. He is such a fancy acting dog, very regal. He trots and prances and crosses his legs like a lady. He never gets sick which is a blessing for us. He loves fetch and has a very strong prey drive so he gets lots of exercise. Shibas are a wonderful breed, just a tad stubborn but it’s funny actually.
WE COMPLETELY ADORE OUR TONKINESE CAT JOEY. HE IS OUR LIL SON. HE IS 1 1/2 YEARS OLD AND JUST A BUNDLE OF LOVE AND PLAYFULNESS. MY HUSBAND DIDNT GROW UP WITH PETS HOWEVER I DID AND SO THIS WAS HIS FIRST PET AND JOEY HAS US BOTH WRAPPED AROUND HIS LIL PAW!! WE TAUGHT HIM TO PLAY FETCH AND HIDE N SEAK!! HES THE BEST BOY EVER AND THE LOVE HE GIVES IN RETURN IS TRUELY UNCONDITIONAL.
Very adorable!
I love my baby cocoa…..she’s sitting under my fee as I type this…..
My puppy (ok, she’s 14 but still my baby!) picked me and my Dad when we were looking for a dog in a truly memorable way. She climbed the fence of the rescue pen and jumped into our arms — twice each! She’s a beautiful reminder of my Dad and that day we both found her.
I just adore my boxer Morgan. She is 50+ pounds of slobbery affection. I adopted her last December and she is the best thing on four legs to ever happen to me. She has seen me through several life changes, including 2 moves in less than 2 months. I always look forward to coming home everyday because I know my little Morgie or MonkeyDoodle as I like to call her will be there to greet me. I can always hear her getting up and shaking her little ears with excitement when she knows I am coming up the stairs or putting the key in the lock. How can you not love to come home to such a sweet face ready to give out tons of kisses? And even when she’s been a little monster and gotten into the trash, I still can’t help but love her funny, sweet face.
I have a 5 month old boxer named Bella
She is the sweetest thing on the face of this earth!!! She broke her little leg about 2 weeks ago (which broke my heart!!!) and now has a big cast but still runs around like there is nothign wrong. Her and my cat Rufus have been there through every thing for me
Funny how animals become a part of your family.
dogs are so cute. i can’t wait to get one.
looooves it
AWW all so cute! I want a pet so bad! Im just not home enough to have one!
You’re a conscientious person to consider your at-home-time! It is important, too, even for pets that are not dogs. When the time is right you’ll be a great pet mom.
I’ve been doing canine rescue for about 20 years. My last rescue is a one-eyed little petunia named Maggie weighing in at 155 lbs. She is a mastiff. Maggie had a challenging life before her rescue. Certain behavior patterns engaged was evidence that Maggie may have been trained for illegal dog fighting. Veterinary diagnosis revealed blunt trauma to the area of the missing eye. Did she lose her eye during one of those repugnant events? We’ll never know. What we do know is that Maggie was found roaming the streets of Baltimore and picked up by a local shelter, Bullmastiff Rescue was alerted and pulled her from the brink of euthanasia. A series of foster homes finally brought Maggie to her forever family – us. Maggie’s story doesn’t end there. You may recall a few years back of tainted dog food imported from China….we, unfortunately, purchased some before that news hit the headlines. Maggie suffered renal issues as well as losing sight in her remaining good eye. I thought after all she’s been through and the hurdles she’s endured, would it be her time? But 3 years later she remains a testament in spirit, endurance and exemplifies the ultimate strength of a woman regardless of species. She is fiercely loyal and protective and truly a gentle giant especially with children and the infirmed. Maggie is my rock and my inspiration to stand strong and proud in the face of any adversity. She continues to teach me to believe in myself with unyielding faith and tenacity. Thank you for allowing me to share my story and thank you, Maggie, for showing me how and why I should never give up. May ‘THAT’ kind of force be with all of you.
I absolutely LOVE my toy yorkshire terrier, she truely is the best dog. Cutest too!!
My boyfriend and I recently adopted a rescued racing greyhound. We named her Junebug, and she’ll be 3 years old next month. Adopting her has been the best thing we’ve done for our relationship! She’s a total diva, and knows she’s spoiled, but she’s a big, sweet ball of love… AND, as an added bonus, my pants are fitting a little looser these days, because I’m toning up from walking her twice a day!
My Maltese, Sophie, is so amazing and smart. It is so clear when she is smiling at me. When I don’t feel well she sit right beside me and gives me kisses/licks. She is the best of her litter and I feel completely blessed to have her. I am especially loving that it is summer because most days I cut us a slice of watermelon and we sit and eat until we are full. Ok I only give her small pieces but she loves the chill and the sweet and chills with me understanding that I do not feel all that well, just loving me. She is the best.
Charlie – my maltese/papillion is the best!!!! He will be 1 tomorrow…Happy Birthday Noodle! Charlie is so smart, so adorable, and the absolute love of my life. I have had other dogs, who I loved dearly, but there is something extra special about Charlie. He truly is my best friend!
I have a neo mastiff and chocolate lab who I look forward to coming home to every night. There is nothing like puppy love to greet you at the front door. I can’t imagine not having a dog. They are definitely stress therapy!
Those pets are cute! sorry no pets allowed where i live but i would love a dog.
I had a red nose pit bull named Cesar. He was the love of my life. From the day that I brought him home, he never left my side. He was my good listener. I had a boyfriend, but Cesar was the one who slept next to me.
In the end, I moved to a place that didn’t allow pets. So I had to give my baby away. That was worse than anything that I ever did in life. I cried for about two weeks.
Cesar was my BFF!!!
I keep his picture in my phone as my screen saver.
my Bob is the best! i can’t imagine my life without him.
