Girlfriend Fun Guide: Philadelphia

I’m heading to Philly on July 21 for Shecky’s Girls Night Out, delicious “bao bun” cheese steaks and cocktails with Sara Van Aken of SA VA. Who’s joining me? Don’t forget, you get 20% off Girls Night Out tickets if you enter code PHILLY20 (expires 7/17!).

Boutique
Discover: Petulia’s Folly1710 Sansom Street

http://www.vimeo.com/13284636

Experience: If you care about style and sophistication, this is the one-stop lifestyle shop for you. From poufs to pottery, wall art to wardrobe trend pieces, carpeting to clutches—the owner has an amazing knack for finding some amazing IT brands and hard-to-find pieces. What I would invest in:
1. Decoupage plates from John Derian make fabulous wall decor
2. A bag from Rebecca Minkoff that you can take anywhere
3. Modern Twist placemats

Spa
Discover: Rescue Rittenhouse Spa, 255 South 17th Street

http://www.vimeo.com/13299902

Experience: Tip for spa addicts heading to Philly: the variety of spas are pretty limited, so head to the centrally-located Rescue which is surrounded by great shops and eateries. Three of my favorites:
1. Perfume by Keiko Mecheri (Rescue is the only shop that carries this brand in Philly!)
2. The Bio-Lift Facial ($150) using my favorite skincare brand, Biologique Recherche
3. A massage from Ron

Boutique
Discover: SA VA1700 Sansom Street

http://www.vimeo.com/13282837

Experience: This store is named after the owner, Sara Van Aken, who has a passion for sustainable fashion and exceptional taste when it comes to picking quality materials and designs. She designs most of what’s in her store, but also curates the selection with other fair-trade, made in the USA and recyclable brands. My favorites:
1. Sara’s boyfriend blazers
2. Black Orchid Denim Jeans
3. Sea Bags (made out of actual old sailcloth material!)

Restaurant
Discover: Sampan, 124 South 13th Street

Experience: Michael Schulson’s (he was on TLC’s The Ultimate Cake-Off) Asian-Fusion restaurant has a mouth-watering menu that can’t be missed. Try:
1. the “Philly Cheese Steak,” a creative interpretation of the city’s classic on a bao bun with shallot and sriacha
2.  a fancy classic, like the Wild Mushroom Salad with goat cheese and truffle

Hotel
Discover: The Rittenhouse Hotel, 210 Rittenhouse Square

Experience: Rittenhouse is like the Plaza Hotel of Philly with…
1. Park views of Rittenhouse Square Park
2. Beauty institution Adolf Bieker Spa & Salon on the hotel lower level
3. The Palm steakhouse on ground level for unbeatable room service

XO,

CLAUDIA
