Spotlight On New Designers
Fashion: there are fads and faux pas, and designers and designs come and go, but sometimes, designers emerge that are so talented, that we silently root they rise above the criticism to be rightfully recognized. Here are three (young!) designers, who have already been blinded by the Shecky’s spotlight, ready to see and be seen!

Who: Lacey Seltzer, 23
What: Lacey Ryan, Inc., jewelry line. “My jewelry is easy to wear on a daily basis and you can create your own style by mixing the healing stones and good luck charms to bring positive energy to the wearer,” says Lacey. “…I’m inspired by a lot of talented emerging designers that I met while creating and growing my line. It is nice to be able to relate to one
another and give each other advice based on our experiences. I draw inspiration from everything that surrounds me. Being that I use a lot of colored stones in my line, I am definitely affected by the seasons and the atmosphere that surrounds me.”

Deets: When asked what her favorite piece from her own line is, Lacey confessed: “I love the beaded stackable bracelets; they are fun and easy to wear. I wear them every day and love to mix and match them up with each outfit.” While she may have a leg (or a wrist!) up with this trend, she admitted that her favorite look for summer is “T-shirts and stacked wrists. I don’t think you can go wrong with a cute t-shirt and a wrist loaded with bracelets, it always works!”
Future: Although Lacey is already making a name for herself and her designs, there are no signs of her slowing down. “I would love to continue my line and break into a new market of fine jewelry,” Lacey says. “Designing and making jewelry is very therapeutic for me, I can’t imagine ever letting go of this passion of mine.”

Who: Emilie Shapiro, 22
What: Emilie Shapiro atelier, jewelry designer and contemporary metalsmith. “Handmade utilitarian creations that are made to be adorned on the body or used in everyday life,” Emilie shares. Inspired by everything from “nature, music, textiles and my heritage,” she told Shecky’s “my favorite metal artist is Peter Bauhuis whom I studied with during my undergraduate. I love love love Mara Hoffman and can’t get enough of Jeffrey Campbell and No.6 shoes! I’m a big fan of jewelry designer Melissa Joy Manning and think she does beautiful work.”

Deets: Emilie told us her favorite piece from her own collection is “my one-of-a-kind ‘Milestone Ring’ made out of recycled 14kt yellow gold. This is one of the pieces that my new collection is based off of coming out in September…stay tuned! I also really love my ‘Silver Sketch Earrings.’ They’re a little bit more delicate and organic than the classic hoop earring, I wear them everyday!” What else does she wear? “Being a designer I try not to follow trends too much,” Emilie admits. “[But] I see that hippie chic is really in right now which really works for my wardrobe!”
Deets: At 22, Emilie has no plans to flee the scene, noting that in the future she hopes to be “happy, healthy, and making progressive art jewelry that people love to wear.”

Who: Dana Madris, 22
What: AM/PM, a brand named after Dana’s grandma and mom, Arleen and Pamela Madris. “They are my biggest source of inspiration,” she says. “The name describes my clothing really well—young, wearable pieces that can take you from day to evening and maybe even into the morning after!” What kind of woman wears her designs? “It’s about being young, feeling sexy and free in the city.” Dana gathers inspiration everywhere from “movies, my friends, the city, the country…for my latest collection I was influenced by models in NYC during fall fashion week, and what they chose to wear after the shows in their time off.”
Where: Email danahmadris@gmail.com for custom designs, as each piece is one of a kind
Deets: “Most designers always say it’s hard to pick your favorite piece from the collection because in a way they are all your babies,” admits Dana. “But, I do have a special place for my black leather crop tank with vintage knit sweater sleeves, it’s the piece that sort of inspired the whole collection.” Dana’s down with the current scene, telling us “everything has been pretty much on point, from clogs to printed crop tops. I never really hate a trend, they are too fleeting and fun, it’s a waste to hate them.”
Future: Fresh out of college, we asked Dana the question we’re sure she’s heard 1,000 times: where she sees herself later down the line. She told us, “Definitely in the fashion industry. Once you’re in it, it’s a passion, an addiction. If you really love it, it’s pretty much impossible to escape it. [Whether I’m doing] designs, magazine or styling for a TV show, I’m so young now that I’m pretty much open to any opportunity.”
