Do Good This Summer
We understand that you’re a busy bee and barely have time for yourself as it is. But what if we told you that by giving up just one hour of your day you could reap the benefits of leadership and up your communication skills, lower you risk of heart disease and depression, boost your life expectancy, and just make yourself feel better (sign us up…)?
It’s as simple as volunteering. Yes, donating some of your time this summer can do all of that and more; we didn’t even factor in what you would be doing for others. Sites like volunteermatch.org and serve.gov match you with organizations in your area. You can narrow things down by your interests so the organization you settle on will be a match made in volunteering heaven! Don’t forget to invite your girlfriends and do-good in groups.
Super busy? Do good virtually! It’s as easy as online shopping (we know you have time for that!). Visit sites like greaterthangoods.com, teesforchange.com, and standup2cancer.org/store that donate a portion of their proceeds to non-profits. Or go to girlup.org and donate $5 to give a girl opportunities we take for granted, like going to school. Another great organization is Nest, a non-profit organization that helps underprivileged women move from poverty to self-sufficiency.
One of our Shecky’s Staffers is partcipating in Walk Now for Autism Speaks this June in New York. What are you doing to better your community? Share cool volunteering opportunities and ways you’re doing good this summer!

Post a CommentI’ve checked out these websites and they are a big help. I also recommend volunteering for Philabundance (Food Bank that serves the Delaware Valley) located in Philadelphia., PA near the Sports Stadiums. Also, if you visit Center for Family Services website they have great year round community services in New Jersey.
