Winter Fun Across the Nation

Don’t let Old Man Winter keep you inside on these frigid days! The weather might be frightful but we’ve found a few cool happenings across the nation, guaranteed to pull you out of your bah-humbug state in no time!

Calling all New York City gals! Do you make the same “lose weight” New Year’s resolution every year?  How about actually keeping it this time? Kick off 2010 on the right foot by joining New York Road Runners’ Emerald Nuts Midnight Run. Or just join the runners at their after-party, complete with costumes, dancing and a fireworks display at the Central Park Bandshell.

If you’re in the Philadelphia area and have always wanted to live the game of Clue (who hasn’t?!), Watson Adventures is solving the Murder at the Philadelphia Museum. Gather your best gal pals and follow cryptic clues to figure out,  “Who dunnit?” (We’re placing our bets on Colonel Mustard…in the library…with a wrench.)

Need a cheap date-night idea? Chicago ladies, grab you man and head over to Lincoln Park Zoo’s Zoo Lights where you’ll see a beautiful musical light show while sipping on hot chocolate or spiced wine and frosty beers. We’ll let you take the credit for this one.

Just because Santa Monica is known for sunshine, doesn’t mean residents can’t enjoy winter’s greatness. Cali chicks can head over to Ice at San Monica for a cheery, winter-wonderland ice skating experience. For a mere $10, you get the benefits of the season’s fun—without that chilly temperature!

Tea time isn’t just for the aristocrats. Take mom (and grandma) to the DeGolyer Garden Café and Tea Room in Dallas for a three-course Holiday or Champagne Tea. Feast on soup, tea sandwiches and dessert as a special after-the-holidays-retreat. Pinkies out!

Ice skating is always fun. I’m afraid of falling and bruising my butt, but it’s fun to go around the rink and then warm up with some hot cocoa.
